Round 01: Here We Go Again

Y'all, I could cry. I had this whole-ass confessional typed up and then I switched tabs to get an image link and when I switched back, I accidentally clicked the X. And then I accidentally deleted a part of the re-typed one. From now on, all confessionals are typed in Notepad and just transferred to Proboards for formatting & posting.




I opened the original post by apologizing that I made yesterday's confessional in the "Your Confessional" thread rather than making a separate post for the round. Rules are hard.



But this is a mistake I can rectify pretty easily, because WE DOMINATED THAT IMMUNITY CHALLENGE!! All credit goes to Ben for making the spreadsheet & coming up with the strategy for ensuring that we secured safety. Basically, he assigned an optimal dollar amount per point that we should aim for, and if the price for a given item went over that amount, we were to pass. There were a few times we bid a little extra in order to drive up prices, and this strategy worked perfectly. Lamont, AJ, and I all agreed that the bidders were glorified robots, just listening to Ben & the rest of the tribe in the chat.

Oh, and if anyone from Korala asks? The deal Lamont made was that we would stop bidding on that item, and in exchange, they couldn't steal from us. We never said we wouldn't steal from them. And besides, stealing the map all but clinched our victory. Don't be upset if someone hurt your feelings in a Survivor game. (And just like that, I set myself up to deserve zero sympathy when my feelings are hurt in this Survivor game.)

ANYWAY. My thoughts on the Maskorra tribe after having some time with them:

• AJ — Complete 180° on this dude. We have quite a few mutual connections from the Survival Challenge / Pandora sphere, and the conversation was super easy with him. I want to get to know him better & work together.
• Ben — MVP of the round for sure. He's going to be good at the Outwit / Outplay components of the strategy, so I need him on my side. He'd be a good person to bounce ideas off of — if I can trust him.
• Carlos — He was sick today so we didn't call. Loved his general energy on chats & the tribe call though.
• Jenn — We missed each other on calls today, but we set up a time for tomorrow after work. She's proven time and again how dangerous she is at these games because she's so dang good. She masterfully directed us during the strategy call for the challenge to make sure we had the right ideas while making sure she didn't get tapped as one of the bidders. I see you, Jenn. And I want to learn from you, and use you as a shield. She's going to be the Jake this season, in terms of the person whose target grows so big that it becomes invisible. Still, I don't want to be the one to take that shot this early, especially when I'm shooting blanks at my first TC.
• Lamont — We were chatting & sending memes throughout the day, but we still haven't gotten on call together. That one was more my fault. I'll set up something with him tomorrow.
• Nina — My first call of the game! She's so lovable, I see why she makes it far consistently as well. I did tell her that I remembered her message in a bottle from either XTC or Conquest (I don't remember which one). I could see myself working with her as well — she laughed at my dumb jokes and I liked her too. Not sure how sincere it was, but I'm willing to find out.

Something to note: AJ, Carlos, and Lamont were on the tribe call for a good 20-25 minutes after I hung up. AJ did respond to one of my texts right after, so I'm assuming they didn't just jump to an alliance call, but who knows. I'm going to squirrel that information away until I need it later.


Thoughts on Prod so far:

• Ashley — Maskorra won, right?
• Benji — One of the best TC hosts ever, but I still hope it's a long time until I have to see you.
• Matt — Thank you so much for catching me painting you as the "smart one" in XTC 12 bc I'm trying not to fall into that trap with Ben. It's blown up in my face once before; I don't need it to again.

        

• Melody — I love that you also cook with pancetta. Let's swap recipes sometime.
• Ricky — Needs to say tribe colors for challenge commentary. I have no idea who Oskola and Korala are. Just call us green, orange, and lilac. Yes, lilac.

        

• Robbie — Nearly gave me a heart attack when he accidentally made a video call in my chat with Nina. WTF dude?
